Wait for SexI marveled recently at a string of commercials with skits promoting the idea "Wait for Sex." While I was somewhat surprised, I was not fully satisfied. You see, how long must one wait and under what condition is sex okay? While this is a catchy phrase, it is useless if not expanded upon and applied to lives. Now, after these commercials have been airing for a few weeks, here comes a study that reveals 1 in 4 teen girls has an STD. I wonder if someone saw this study coming and wanted to look "progressive". With this study stating that approx 48 percent of black teens and 20 percent of others under this curse, I'm sure we can agree that the "open" method is not working. What is the "open" method? It's the idea that "they are gonna' do it anyway" so let's educate buy giving them HPv vaccine and condoms. This is a flawed policy which: Yes, I'm aware that sex relationships, along with the money issue, appears to be the biggest cause of the high divorce rate in America and around the world. I say "appears to be the cause" because that is the secular view; we see the consequences and call them the cause. The spiritual view is: We are living the consequences because we can't see or ignore the cause. The problem with this issue (the divorce rate) and the teen STD issue is the same; it is the lack of a perfect standard to live by. God's boundaries are non-negoitiable and are for our benifit. Everything He does is right, just, and best for everyone. What we are experiencing today is the reward for being vague about spiritual things. Instead of promoting abstinence, because it's God's method and therefore best; we put forth vague messages to parents and teens like, "talk to your kids about sex" and " wait four sex" respectively. |
