"CONNECTIONS"

Answers to questions:

What about “Election”?

I’m sure this, election, will be revisited in several ways during this study therefore, I will attempt to be brief.

When the doctrine of election comes up it is assumed that it relates to salvation. While this is the major concern as salvation is all important, I think we confuse our position in relationship to God’s.

God is “sovereign”; this is His creation and therefore He is allowed to do with it (and anyone or anything in it) whatever He chooses. We are just blessed that He has our best interest as a priority at all times.

With that said, election can be viewed in other contexts (not related to an individual’s salvation); God elected to *harden Pharaoh’s heart (to show His power with judgments against their idol worship); He had previously elected the nation Israel therefore He was not finished with them. He elected wicked nations to take them into captivity and delivered them each time; why? Because they are His elect; and the Jewish nation are His still His elect to this day; most just don’t know it today but, God will make good someday.

The whole of scripture reveals that God requires we all make a choice. We either choose to accept Christ (His life, death, burial, and resurrection on our behalf) or choose to reject Him. In other words, God calls all to repentance; the ones that repent, and turn to Him, are the elect. The ones that choose not to accept Christ are anti-Christ, and therefore the non-elect.

*Pharaohs’ Heart (an analogy) – when one squeezes a lemon, sweet syrup does not come out; sour lemon juice does. When God squeezed Pharaohs’ heart, whatever was in it came out.
