Pulpit Freedom Sunday?

I thought it interesting that a Phoenix-based conservative group has enlisted ministers around the country to invite investigations by the IRS by giving political sermons on September 28, 2008. I wanted to get on the record thus I penned this on September 10th 2008. The group has dubbed the event "Pulpit Freedom Sunday."

Those involved (to be defended by the Alliance Defense Fund[ADF]) are looking for a lawsuit to challenge a 1954 IRS restriction that led to the prohibition against pastors endorsing candidates.

My opinion is that these ministers and the ADF are wrong here in that they are putting emphasis on politics and not salvation. If every member of their respective congregations are in a right relationship with God, through The Lord Jesus Christ, then He will lead them in choosing the right candidate in any given election.

It's simple, a genuine Christian will vote for the candidate that agrees with Christ "the most." Knowing that we all fall short, our standard is the perfection of God, in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, if ministers want to be leaders of social clubs, or political pundits; they should enjoy that feedom and welcome the loss of tax exempt status.

Now that I'm on the record let's see what happens after 28 September.
