"CONNECTIONS"

Answers to questions:

Does God’s love have an end or can God not love you?

God’s love does not have and end as it is a vital part of His character; there are several passages in scripture that reveals that “God is love”.

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16

Because of God’s perfect attributes, we can be confident that God will never to stop loving his special creation, people.

With that said, we find there are things that God hates; for instance it was mentioned in our study:

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Romans 9:13

It turns out that this is not a contradiction. Looking at the whole of scripture we find that every time God revealed specific things He hates, it is the sin He hates, not the individual or nation. He always hates the sin and loves the sinner. God said that He loved Jacob because of the fact that He knew what was in Jacob’s heart. He knew that here was a man who had a desire for Him and that Esau did not have a desire for Him at all. Romans 9:13 is a quotation from the Old Testament (see Mal. 1:2–3). This statement was not made until the two boys had lived their lives and two nations had come from them, and much history had been made.

It is easy to see why God rejected Esau. He was godless, filled with pride, and from him came a nation that wanted to live without God. I read a commentary that stated; “we can see why Esau was rejected but why did God choose Jacob?” “The Bible tells us that He made His choice according to His sovereign will."

Finally, as far as Esau was concerned:

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. Hebrews 12:16

He had a spiritual birthright that was significant. It meant that Esau would be in the line that led to the Messiah, and it meant that he should be the priest of the family of Abraham. But he didn’t care for it; he was not interested in spiritual blessings.
