Answers to questions:

Where is the prayer of Jabez in the scriptures?

1 Chron. 4:9-10

As it was stated in our last study; these verses were the craze for a while; but I’m afraid for the wrong reason. For the lack of a better description, it seemed to be a type of prosperity gospel; that is, “name it, claim it and God has to deliver because you are a Christian.”

The problem with this approach is: 1. God owes us nothing and we owe him everything; much more than we can ever repay. This is why we rejoice that His grace is sufficient.

2. We forget that Jabez had a life worthy of his prayer being answered. During the Jabez craze 1 Chronicles 4:9 was not mentioned; the emphasis was always put on verse 10.

And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. [10] And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. 1 Chron. 4:9-10

NOTE**** Jabez was more honorable that his brethren...... And God granted him that which he requested. ****

Don’t know about you but I will be careful claiming this verse. With that said, I would relish an ending that is akin to that of Enoch and Elijah. Oh! My prayer is that I will attain such a standing before my Lord; Selah.
