- what must we do to be saved Thoughts & Prayers "You are in our thoughts and prayers" is a common response after tragedies. On the surface this appears good but is it genuine? If not, it is hypocritical. At best, thoughts are but temporal feelings and, who/m are we praying to? Are we trusting in a personal God or going through the motions. If we were serious about prayer, we would (as a nation) be united in acknowledging the one we are praying to. To expect a generic god to hear and answer prayer from sinful man, a pagan nation in the time of war and natural disasters, is illogical. Why would a god that is not involved in our lives personally and daily respond at our beckoned call? Why would a Sovereign God bless a nation that rejects Him, His principles and His way of salvation? What must we do to be saved? The natural outpouring after a disaster is to give. This fantastic is in that it meets the immediate need. Unfortunately, it is also temporal. The height of arrogance is and S.O.S. or Save OurSelves concert. While recognizing that the intention is noble, the heart is revealed. Little man cannot save himself. Once again, natural disasters, medical research and graveyards confirm this fact. We can’t save ourselves on any level. We are at the mercy of everything seen and unseen around us. We need a real S.O.S. call; Save Our Souls. What must we do to be saved? We need a Savior. From 911 to Katrina to the next event; we wink at God as a nation to our demise. After a crisis, we ask for God to bless America, we go to church, ask for prayers and in time forget about God and return to our pagan ways. It is a fearful thing to try and manipulate God. We want to have "serious debate" about what went wrong; who’s the blame for war efforts and natural disaster response? What has gone wrong is that we are turning more and more away from God’s way of living. We can’t pick and choose when we want Him in our lives; He’s God we’re not. We do need a serious debate to decide as a nation if we really desire to be Under God or not? Not making a decision is a negative decision. We must live by faith; after trusting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. This is what it takes to be saved. The usual characters reveal their bias and some are not true to their claims. Reverends? Are we trusting in local and/or federal government, reverends or even ourselves? We should be trusting in the only One who is worthy of reverence, Jesus Christ. If so, from event to event we would see Mr. Jackson and Sharpton ministering by appealing for us to continue to trust Christ, our only hope. Calling for us to put our faith in the finished work of Christ and unite as a nation at the cross; this is what a true minister does. Questions for these gentlemen: Who/What are you trusting in? And what do they say I must do to be saved? Leaders in the Catholic Church reportedly will meet later this month (Sept 2005) to hold a conference on the Bible. The leaders have supposedly called parishioners to read the Bible at home. The fear is that they (their Bibles) are "gathering dust". If the parishioners take their leaders advice the conference will be moot. If the scriptures are read to understanding the congregation will do well. After countless years with many churches not having Bibles in the pews, and priest not being true to the scriptures, this welcomed change may force all involved to discover what we must do to be saved. Hurricane Katrina reporting on faith is stating that many chaplains are coming to the devastated areas to "meet the spiritual needs" of the troops (of various faiths) involved in the relief effort. The question is how do we reconcile One God and many faiths? There is but one God and therefore, one way, His. We must do what He requires to be saved. Science reported this week (of Sept. 9, 2005) that "the brain may still be evolving." How ludicrous, if we have been evolving for millions of years then this is a no-brainer :) unless our brains stopped evolving at some point? Oh, wait! Maybe that’s why looting occurred in New Orleans after the hurricane; President Bush cut funding for brain evolution research. Sometimes I must laugh to keep from crying. Thankfully, we serve an awesome God; He loves us despite our ignorance. His grace is sufficient and He provides what we need to be saved. The bright spot in all of this is that there is eternal hope; God is still on the throne and is in control. Does this mean God caused Katrina? No one knows but you can rest assured that He allowed it. The key is being in a right relationship with God before death comes. We can rest in the fact that His purposes, in everything, are just. His ways are always right had He has our best interest at heart. We live in a fallen world and things are going to get worst before they are made right. Mr. Franklin Graham stated it eloquently saying " Jesus Christ is the way, confess your sin and let Him into your life". The key is to know what it takes to be saved and then respond to that knowledge. This world is temporal and passing away at a time we know not. |
