Election Thoughts November 2nd 2004
My day began, as usual, waking (praise God) at approx. 5:00am for work. I prayed for God's will for my day. 5:30am I was in my car driving and listening to Dr. J.V. McGee teach Daniel (a great book of the Bible). 6:00am I listened to Pastor Paul Shepard (teaching that God is for us, are we for him?).
6:30am I writing this and the two previous time-marks (as I can't write and drive at the same time) after getting to work. I picked up two local papers, as I wanted to see what's being said before the "picks". Tomorrow I'll get them again and compare articles. However, this posting is just the thoughts of common folk on and around Election Day.
I'm having an up and down, prayerful day thus far. On one hand I want my candidate to win and then again, other scenarios are going through my mind. 8:35am I will link the rest of my thoughts, from today.
Here are the comments and responses from election day 2004:
"This is the big day, vote to give your opinion and then go to court. This seems to be the general consensus. I heard on the radio it's being called "lawsuit Wednesday", it's a shame. I'm going to vote right after work."
"I liked the old way of voting, I had no problems with it. It's said that people in Alabama and Mississippi aren't smart well, it appears Florida is having the problems. Just because they don't know how to vote, the whole country has to change it's voting system? It's sad."
"My daughter is voting for the first time, she is 18. She actually went online to practice. You can practice online; I will probably get to the polls today and not know what to do. The old system was simple using the punch cards."
"I watched SNL (Saturday Night Live) last night, it's election skits. Hosted by Bill Clinton himself: it was very funny. It might be worth seeing Kerry win just to see the spoofs done about him over the next four years."
"I was looking over a list of companies and noticed that Heinz Ketsup was supporting Bush, evidently someone didn't get the memo. It appeared that more companies (oil etc.) are supporting Bush."
"All of the indicators for a Bush win are in place except one, the Washington Redskins lost the home game."
"There's more foreign media coverage for this election than ever before. France, Germany, Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran to name a few; have all come out in support of a particular candidate."
"Germany is the smart one in supporting Bush; If Bush wins they can claim to have supported him. If he loses Kerry will go over there and kiss their butts anyway."
"I forgot I still had that on (the I voted sticker). I went to vote at 7:00am and stood in line for 30 minutes. After my husband and I voted the line was short." :)
"They say Bush is winning in Maryland, chuckle, chuckle, ha ha ha; not a chance.
"Went to vote and an old man looked and my last name suspiciously... they say you don't really need your registration card, you can use picture ID."
"See you later, have a good vote."
Wednesday - the day after
"I looked at a few newspapers, they called Florida for Bush but were primarily not committing. It's good they didn't jump the gun."
"Ohio is still up for grabs. Provisional votes, what are those? Folks whose names that shouldn't be on registered lists? Dead folks? Anyway, some of these will be voting for Bush and military votes generally go to the Republicans."
"Ohio will not be settled for 11 days. Some reports a stating that it is statically impossible for Kerry to win Ohio. Some are calling for Kerry to give up."
"Kerry should concede, elections shouldn't be going to lawyers, I think these kind of things are bad for the country."
"Florida was not an issue this time, Bush won decisively. Maybe the new system reveals that the 2000 election wasn't actually close either."
Ohio was officially closed at 3:55am because anyone in line before the polls closed could vote. Who do you think this favors? Oh the Republicans, it's dark, that's when they come out - chuckle ha ha chuckle."
"Guess Edwards is out of a job, they had other running to fill his spot as he ran for vice president."
"Now we will get a Bush 5 year plan, first terms issue 10 year plans and second's issue 5, so we have to live with it while the are off in retirement making speeches."
"Guess we better get ready for Rudy Gulianni in 4 years."
"AP is reporting that Kerry has called Bush to concede. I'm glad it didn't last long as Florida. The other stations are saying similar things."
"They were trying to make similarities between Kerry and J.F.K. because of the initials and family prominence."
"There's a graphic up saying Kerry is conceding and the DOW is up 139 points."
"Personally, I'm glad its over."
