How can Christians claim to be content in a world moving toward turmoil?
Well, the short answer is: Christians do not know what the future holds, they just know who holds the future. Christians follow and put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ; His principles and His promises. The things the world hopes will bring contentment actually lead turmoil and are contrary to the ways of God.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5
Putting your life in the hands of the one who has known the end from the beginning brings about contentment; so much so that it is a mystery. Christians have a peace that can't be explained, just experienced:
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philip. 4:7
Also, the fact that the world is headed on a downward spiral isn't a surprise; Christian are simply content regardless:
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. Mark 13:8
This is the fate of the world, but...
