"CONNECTIONS"
Answers to questions:
Why is it stated in Genesis that man should leave his mother and father when it is obvious that Adam didn’t have parents?
This was the question of the study; in the light of Genesis 2:24, after God established the marriage covenant, the man is now subject to his wife in the sense that he is responsible for her, and he is no longer under the control of his father and mother. Since, Adam did not have parents; God must have been talking to us. That is, all those that will follow Adam and Eve. This scripture established a God ordained bond which we are not to break. It is referenced several times throughout scripture in various ways:
Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Matthew 19:6
What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Mark 10:9
And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Matthew 19:5
And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. Mark 10:8
What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 1 Cor. 6:16
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. Ephes. 5:31
