The Joker

being dealt the joker,
imitating the pros,
pride and self promotion,
a precursor for sure woes.

an innocent game of poker,
or maybe the jokes on us,
teens gaining social skills,
a charming future of lust.

being dealt the joker,
our basement a place of trust,
knowing where our children are,
and dooming them to just:

a life of selfish desire,
to win at others expense,
using what God entrusted,
different from His intent.

being dealt the joker,
gaining a handful of dust,
a foundation built on chance,
and not In God We Trust.

it comes down to worldview,
a battle of the wills,
the best being the Creator's,
or ours that eventually kills.

being dealt the joker,
mastering the poker face,
an innocent little pastime,
that ends in disgrace.
