THE BLOG SOLUTION: The Legacy of Hurricane Irene

Hypocrites!

As Hurricane Irene says goodnight, that is, fades into the history books it revealed, once again, our hypocrisy.

For some time now journalists, politicians, and most of us spout an insincere comment; "You are in our thoughts and prayers" following natural events. Did you notice I didn't say natural disasters? Actually, there is no such thing as a natural disaster; as disaster is not natural. Disasters are unnatural events, but that's a subject for another time.

Hypocrites! Are we to believe that good thoughts and so-called prayers convey a since of caring? Yes, it's normal to feel for those who are having trouble but let's be real; how often to we really think about them and as for prayer; how often do we actually pray? Also, to whom are we praying to? I propose that even if most Americans did pray with their lips, their hearts would not be in it. (Matt 15:8).

How can we talk of "thoughts and prayers" in a nation falling into apostasy. We are rejecting God on many fronts to include recently; disallowing prayer at sporting events and the 911 memorial. The national day of prayer is no more and even "so called" Christians and falling for multi-faith observances (1 Tim. 2:5-6).

It's time that America got real. We are not a Christian nation; we were founded on Christian principles. With that said, God is so good that I'm convinced that He blessed this nation for acknowledging Him, even though we weren't all in.

A foundation is solid; a principle is an idea. A solid rock is not easily moved while a principle can be changed overtime. This is quite evident in that our principles have, and are, fading. If we had been founded on the solid rock of Christ, we would know where our laws come from and how to execute them justly.

Hypocrites! We want God only when we need Him and on our terms. The truth is that God does not hear the "thoughts and prayers" of unbelievers. The first prayer that God hears from a unbeliever is "I believe in You and what You did for me; Your life, death, and resurrection on my behalf." (1 Cor 15:3)

Finally, God does not hear the prayer of Christians that ask amiss (James 4:3). We cannot force God to do anything; He is sovereign and His will and ways are always best.

Put your trust in Christ; it is the only escape. Nothing else works. (John 3:18)
