THE BLOG SOLUTION: ConsistencyRed Eye Radio Error Listening to your show on the way to work I find myself agreeing with you most of the time but I must opine on these two
areas where I believe you fall short: When it comes to life the Catholic church could not be more inconsistent; here is why. While it claims to be "Christian" it breaks the very definition of its claims. A Christian is one who follows the teachings and principles of God, in Christ, as revealed in The Holy Bible; after coming to know Christ personally. God clearly established the death penalty in the Bible, early-on, and never repealed it (Gen. 9:6). This principle, which runs throughout the Bible; reveals that we are not to take "innocent" life. But, we are to administer "justice". God established the law to reveal to us the we fall woefully short of perfection. We should remember this and carry this principle into our current laws; understanding that the law is established to ensure justice, not to rehabilitate. The law cannot institute morality, it can only apply consequences for transgressions. Therefore, Catholicism is inconsistent with God's instructions’ as established in scripture: the preservation of "all innocent" life; the unborn and the "murder" victim. What about the life of the person put to death you ask? This is a lead-in, believe it or not, to question two; the voting tendency of evangelicals. If I understood you correctly, you hinted that evangelicals blindly vote Republican; this is not the case. You see, true evangelicals, like myself, know that being a Christian is a serious matter. We follow God, in Christ, and not man. Our desire is for the murderer to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Even in his dire, earthly circumstances; we would be honored to tell him of the only escape (1 Cor 15:3, Rom 5:8, John 3:16). With that secured, he is ready to receive his punishment, which is justice. This is all important as it reveals where we have gone wrong as a nation; we have lost the idea of Godly justice. As for voting, true evangelicals tend to vote conservative because Biblical principles are conservative. We will vote to the party and candidates that "closest" adhere to Biblical teachings. If you agree with Christ, we will agree with you. Yes, we vote for the lesser of all evils. The scripture compels us to vote because we are to be an influence in this world. God has entrusted us will the privilege to vote and we are to be, prayerfully, good stewards of it. We study to know God's stand on the issues and vote accordingly. Again, anyone that agrees with Him, we will agree with them. Conclusion: According to scripture, which is the only standard for true Christians, to be against the death penalty and against abortion is inconsistent. True Evangelicals are no respecter of persons; we desire that all come to trust The Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Thereby, instantly going from spiritual death and acquiring eternal life; abundant life here and in God's presence one day. By the way Doug, have you chose life? It can only be found in Christ, nothing else works.
