Mullahs vs. Rupert Murdoch - America pop culture inspires idealism Initially I agreed with the premise that our culture was better than the Islamist one but, after careful thought I revised my position, here's why: "The Islamists, he says, feel they're being "colonized" by the secular materialists and polluted by imported cultural trash." Well, in a way he is. You mentioned "Sarah Jessica Parker, the star of HBO hit "Sex and the City," scanty sequined dress..." This is an example of what America is becoming and the Islamist is correct in rejecting it as we are spreading a culture of immorality. On the contrary, the Islamist's method of countering it and his desired way of living (kill the infidels and "dictatorial power" respectively) are equally wrong. Therefore, should he settle for the lesser of two evils? NO, he should not trade the "bomb around his waist", a culture of death; for "American popular culture" which is also a culture of death, and not a "culture of life". Some of today's headlines from Maryland and Virginia alone are disturbing. They reveal what popular culture breeds and it's not life. These are only a few; they don't include the broken lives that are rampant in the "lifestyles of the rich and famous," the HBO culture or those hurting throughout America due to misguided values:
So, what does the Islamist do? May I suggest that the "death" that both cultures have embraced is rooted in "spiritual" vice "physical" death. For instance, where did we (us pro-life or "culture of life" Americans) get the idea that we "should not kill"? This is rooted in the fact that our nation was founded under the notion of a higher being. We looked to someone greater than ourselves for answers; we are rejecting this today. We are doing what right in "our own" eyes. Finally, both cultures are wrong. The Islamists would be trading spiritual death for another type of spiritual death. We all should turn to the One true God; the One revealed in the Holy Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus' coming to die a substitutionary death on everyone's behalf, being buried and raised to conquer death is the key. Christ's teachings, which changes the heart, is the only solution that will work. In Him there is life here and throughout eternity for all who believe.
